The Innocents

by

The Innocents is based off of Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw. The film cleverly leaves in doubt how much of what occurs may be paranormal, and what might be in the nanny’s mind. Miss Giddins discovers that the nanny before her, Miss Jessel, was having an affair with the valet Quint, and that they had both died. Miss Giddins starts seeing their spirits in the house and grounds and comes to believe that the ghosts of Quint and his lover are trying to possess the bodies of the children, Miles and Flora.

Although this movie was meant to be scary, it didn’t really phase me. I was rather bored throughout the whole thing; I didn’t enjoy it at all. I watch scary movies all the time and The Innocents may have been scary at the time of its release, but I almost fell asleep watching it. I definately wouldn’t recommend this movie to anybody.
